On January 9, 2013 Brown County Judge Marc A. Hammer ruled that the City of Green Bay acted within its rights when it rescinded Oneida Seven Generations Corporation’s Conditional Use Permit (CUP) because OSGC made several misrepresentations regarding its proposed dioxin-emiting gasification incinerator project.
On January 29, 2013 the Oneida Land Commission held a public meeting chaired by Land Commissioner Amelia Cornelius about a request for a zoning variance and for a Conditional Use Permit by Oneida Seven Generations Corporation of which her son, Kevin Cornelius, is was CEO. Kevin recently moved to North Carolina and a well-placed source confirms that he is no longer the CEO of OSGC.
OSGC wanted to build a plastics incinerator in a wetlands area less than a mile from schools, neighborhoods, and Tribal offices.
The Land Commission was supposed to vote on the matter on February 11, 2013 but, due to the overwhelming amount of written comments they received, they decided to wait two days longer to make a decision.
After the media reported that Amelia Cornelius was the mother of OSGC’s then-CEO Kevin Cornelius, Amelia recused herself from chairing the February 13, 2013 meeting even though she had not recused herself from previous meetings where there were votes regarding OSGC.
Instead of Amelia, the February 13 Land Commission meeting was chaired by Commission member Patricia ‘Pat’ Cornelius whose son, Bart Cornelius, is the ‘Independent Tribal Vendor‘ for ‘Trucking’ for OSGC.
The Land Commission predictably voted for the CUP and for the variance to rezone the Water Circle Place wetlands area where the Tower Foods building is located into an ‘industrial’ zone.
However, on May 5, 2013 General Tribal Council voted to disallow OSGC from building any kind of incinerator anywhere on the Oneida reservation.
Now six months have passed since the CUP was granted and, because OSGC wasn’t able to use it, on August 13, 2013 it expired.
Congratulations again, GTC, for voting to defend your right to protect your own health, safety and welfare!
Now, GTC, please help protect the health, safety & welfare of other Tribes and reservations by supporting the petition to dissolve Oneida Seven Generations Corporation.
