As Oneida Eye previously noted, there are severe flooding problems with the current Oneida Tribal Cemetery location:
The Oneida Eye editors attended a meeting of the Oneida Trust & Enrollment Committee on the evening of October 22, 2013 which addressed in part the woefully inappropriate choice of that parcel and the slow response by the Business Committee to deal with the basic problem which is not one of remediation of the current site but the need for relocation to a new area.
There were concerns expressed by Tribe members and Committee members that the Business Committee has been reluctant to undertake the matter with the seriousness and immediacy it deserves and that getting the matter placed on an upcoming BC agenda could be difficult, let alone having the BC prioritize the need for promptly taking meaningful action.
However, this afternoon an Emergency BC Meeting was scheduled to address the issue at 3 p.m. today:
UPDATE 1: Sadly, Oneida Eye must report that the BC has determined that oversight of this matter should be assigned to Vice-Chair Greg Matson, whose only qualification seems to be that he’s long been dead from the neck up. We can only hope that a competent replacement is quickly found, but given the current candidates it seems that competency is – at best – in short supply.
UPDATE 2:
