As was mentioned in the August 2013 Issue of ONEIDA TIMES, one of Oneida Gaming Commission Chair Shirley Hill‘s daughters is Liane F. Melchert, who works in the Casino Surveillance Dept. under the authority of another one of Shirley Hill’s daughters, Liane’s sister and Surveillance Director Janice Jourdan.
Shirley’s daughter Racquel ‘Rocky’ Hill just last week ended her term on the Land Commission of which the Chair is Amelia Cornelius who – until recently losing her re-election bid – was Vice-Chair of the Gaming Commission under Shirley. (Speculation is Rocky wants the position of Land Division Director, which was recently & unexpectedly vacated by Fred Muscavitch, meaning that Rocky would continue to work directly with Amelia.)
Elaine Parker is another of Shirley’s daughters, and she works in the Payroll Dept. of the Casino.
Lastly, Shirley’s granddaughter and Janice’s daughter is Tammy Van Schyndel, the rather unimpressive Executive Director of the Gaming Commission.
It seems Shirley’s daughter Liane was found guilty in March 2013 of ‘Possess/Illegally Obtained Prescription’ which should have resulted in her gaming license being revoked.
However, Oneida Eye can reveal that pharmaceuticals aren’t the only thing Gaming Commissioner Shirley’s daughter Liane appears to be illegally obtaining.
Specifically, it seems that Liane also may have engaged in forgery to illegally obtain car repairs from Bob Zegers Auto & Truck Rebuilders:
Did Shirley Hill know about all of this regarding her daughter Liane and do anything about her daughter’s gaming license? If she knew and did nothing, could this spell the end of Shirley Hill’s service on the Gaming Commission?
Did Janice Jourdan know about all of this regarding her sister Liane and do anything about her sister’s employment in the Surveillance Dept.? If she knew and did nothing, could this spell the end of Janice Jourdan’s role as Surveillance Director?
Did Tammy Van Schyndel know about all of this regarding her aunt Liane and do anything about it? If she knew and did nothing, could this spell the end of Tammy’s role as Executive Director of the Gaming Commission?
Did Elaine Parker know about all of this regarding her sister Liane and do anything about it? If she knew and did nothing, could this spell the end of Elaine’s role in the Casino Payroll Dept.?
Did Racquel ‘Rocky’ Hill know about all of this regarding her sister Liane and decide to keep her mouth shut about it and let Shirley & Janice & Tammy handle it?
Did Amelia Cornelius know about all of this while she was Vice-Chair of the Gaming Commission and decide that this was a ‘family matter’ rather than taking action for the sake of the integrity of Oneida gaming operations?
Yes, we know that using the words ‘Amelia Cornelius‘ and ‘integrity‘ in the same sentence is totally preposterous, but the question is: Should Amelia be allowed to remain on the Land Commission if she betrayed the Tribe on the Gaming Commission?
Did OSGC President & Chair Atty. Bill Cornelius know about all of this as the current Gaming Commission Counsel and do anything about it? If he knew and did nothing, could this spell the end of Bill‘s role as the Attorney for the Gaming Commission?
Who all, including members of the Business Committee, were aware of Liane’s crimes and did absolutely nothing to address it?
The conflicts of interest created by Shirley’s & her three daughters’ and her granddaughter’s roles at Oneida gaming operations are widely known, but this seems to demonstrate a level of ignorance & incompetence and/or arrogance & intentional cover-up that has to be taken seriously and addressed on multiple levels immediately.
The proper Oneida Casino authorities have been notified.
Perhaps the National Indian Gaming Commission will have to do something about it.
Or maybe General Tribal Council should do something about it.
