Brian Doxtator emailed an Editor of Oneida Eye today with the following message:
Retraction Request: Per Wisconsin State Law, I am providing you an opportunity to retract defamatory statements provided on oneidaeye.com. Per Wisconsin Law, you have one week after receiving written notice from the presumed plaintiff to either retract or print a correction.
First, we’re happy to know that Brian Doxtator reads Oneida Eye and that he has encouraged others to do so as well. Perhaps they’ll all learn a thing or two.
Second, Oneida Eye has asked Brian several times to explain what statements he alleges are false but so far he has failed to cite any instances of so-called ‘defamation’ that he wants to be retracted or corrected. It is incumbent on Brian to state what he objects to.
However, let us take this opportunity to reprint an article regarding then-Council member Brian Doxtator from the Spring 2004 edition of the Oneida Times newspaper which – to our knowledge – he never challenged nor requested be retracted:
The Story of the Real Brian Doxtator. When Brian Doxtator was first elected to the Oneida Business Committee, the staff at the Oneida Times decided to remain silent about his past, giving him a chance to mend his torrid past.
But Doxtator has not changed. He still lies to the people and to his fellow OBC members and he still wants to work with young people. The Oneida Times now believes the time to tell the real story of Brian Doxtator has arrived. As a department Director, Doxtator invited a male employee to accompany him on a trip. Once there, Doxtator got drunk and made an aggressive sexual advance toward the employee. Back at work, Doxtator began to and continued to harass the employee (victim) through inappropriate disciplinary action, and by prancing into the women’s bathroom in his socks when the employee was in the men’s room. Doxtator pounded on the wall and demanded to know why the employee would not talk to him. One can only imagine what went through the young worker’s mind. Things got so bad, the young employee had to get the Oneida Threat Assessment Team involved.
Now Doxtator wants to play a lead role in recruiting and training the Junior Business Committee. The Oneida Times says ‘NO.’ It’s time for the Oneida Business Committee to also say ‘NO’ to Doxtator because if anything happens to any of those young men that might be chosen to serve, it will be the shame of the Oneida Nation that will never be forgiven.
The Oneida Business Committee is preparing to spend millions of dollars to build unnecessary buildings. At the same time they are preparing to cut jobs. Never their own wages, but always the little guys. It is the hope of the Oneida Times that Doxtator’s victim does not have his position eliminated because the truth has finally surfaced. Truth be known, the supervisor acknowledged the hostile and abusive work environment, but continued to support Doxtator and ignore/punish the victim. In fact, neither Janice Hirth nor Bill Gollnick kept their word when they agreed to compensate Doxtator’s victim. An agreement regarding compensation to the victim was made several years ago. Perhaps families of victims are supposed to remain silent…And let it happen again…NO!
Oneida Eye welcomes Brian Doxtator to openly admit which statements in that reporting or in any previous post on Oneida Eye that he wants to claim are false, but so far he seems reluctant to actually challenge any particular statement.
Make of that what you will.
Lastly, there have been comments made on Elaine Doxtator’s heavily restricted ‘Oneida Community Chat’ Facebook page about the fact that Oneida Eye has a closed comment system.
That’s an odd complaint coming from anyone participating in a cloistered online conversation that the majority of Tribe members don’t even have access to read let alone contribute to, but more importantly Oneida Eye does invite anyone who cares to comment to contact us at the email address on our ‘About’ page and we also welcome people to submit articles for consideration as we’ve stated every time we’ve published a guest commentary.
Be our guest.
