Appellate Court Lifts Stay On Judiciary Election; BC Votes To Approve New Election Date & Process GTC Petition [UPDATE]

On Monday September 8, 2014 the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin Appeals Commission’s Appellate Court mailed notice of its September 5, 2014 Order lifting the Stay on a Special Election to determine the members of the inaugural Oneida Tribal Judiciary.

At the Wednesday September 10, 2014 Business Committee Regular Meeting, the BC voted to approve the Oneida Election Board’s recommendation to hold the Special Election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday September, 27, 2014 at the polling site at the Oneida Health Center on the Oneida Reservation and the polling site at the Southeastern Oneida Tribal Services (SEOTS) facility in Milwaukee.

The BC also voted at the Regular Meeting that financial, legislative and legal analyses be completed in 45 days regarding the GTC Petition to demand legally-held Tribal elections and to nullify illegally-held Tribal elections.

UPDATE: On Thursday September 11, 2014 the Oneida Tribal newspaper, Kalihwisaks, announced:

The OBC approved a new Special Election date of Saturday, September 27 [, 2014] for the new judicial system. Because of Oneida laws requiring the election notice be published in a Tribal newspaper 10 days prior to the election, the Kalihwisaks staff moved its print day up to Wednesday, September 17 [, 2014].
